The Ministry of Commerce & Industry recently announced that foreign nationals should apply for an employment visa if they are going to India to work on projects or specific contracts in India. Any foreign national who is currently working on a specific contract or project in India will be required to leave the country and apply for an employment visa. Applying for the appropriate visa is imperative as non-compliance with the immigration rules can have severe implications to both the employer and employee.
UAE
UAE enforces rules on re-entering with residence permit
According to the Federal Residency law, if a foreign national on a residence permit leaves the UAE and does not return within 6 months, his or her residence permit will be considered cancelled from the exit date.
Hot line in Abu Dhabi for illegal immigrants
The Minister of Interior has launched an official crackdown on illegal immigrants. Working with the office of the Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Naturalization and Residency, the directorate has set up a 24 hour telephone hot-line for people to call and notify authorities of the presence of illegal workers or residents in the emirate.
UAE work permit processing reform
There are initial discussions within the UAE Ministry of Labor concerning plans to reform the system by which it accepts work applications through external typing offices. This reform is currently being contemplated following reports of abuse of process and forgery. Under the new system, the centers will be monitored by a newly established body and will have to meet ministry standards.
Russia
The Federal Migration Service has issued the Order on July 6, 2009 ‘About execution of the Administrative regulation of Federal Migration Service (FMS), specifying exact internal procedure of immigration registration in the Russian Federation’. This Order came into force on October 9, 2009.
